Fires continue to pop up in the region. The 154-acre Desolation Fire in the Mill Creek Wilderness is about 20 miles northeast of Prineville. The fire was being fought with aircraft and water dumps as the area is filled with an abundance of snags that are a hazard for those who may be fighting the fire on the ground. There were a couple of other fires that came out of last week’s lightning storm including the 840-acre Hampton Fire 6 miles NE of Hampton that is 60 percent contained, the 50-acre Box Car fire North of Prineville that is contained and the 130-acre Newsome Creek Fire 4 miles from Post that is lined. No changes to the Milli Fire SW of Sisters or to the Nash Fire North of Elk Lake.
